| Notes | F. A. A. Pollender. This observation is also said to date from 1848. Published six years later. Loeffler 1987 (see Howard translation, page 79) said that Pollender saw rods and considered them a possible cause of anthrax. Carter, in reviewing that translation, says that Loeffler mistakenly credits Pollender instead of Davaine with the discovery of the anthrax bacillus. Several other investigators, including Brauell, Leisering and Delafond, had seen rods in mammalian blood but their observations did not contribute significantly to the development of the Germ Theory. |
