NotesJohn Snow published first a self-published essay for the benefit of his professional peers and friends, and in the same year an essay in London Medical Gazettte for a slightly broader medical redership. It was prompted by his experience in the 1848-49 London outbreak of cholera, from which he concluded that cholera was not transmitted by miasma, and, further, that is was trnsmitted in drinking water.
