| Date | 1884 |
| Author | Koch |
| Contribution | b. Reported that chlorine, bromine and mercuric chloride were good disinfectants. |
| Reference | Anon. |
| Notes | He said they were better than the carbolic acid that had been used in surgery for more than a decade. This should be checked for exact date and authorship (Koch pupils?) because Foster refers to an English report. For germicide tests he used Serratia marcescens, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Bacillus anthracis. |
