Notes | English translation in Brock, 1961. While not the first to use solid medium for isolating pure cultures, Koch made the technique more useful by combining nutrient broth and gelatin, making a medium that (unlike sliced potato) would support a great variety of bacteria, while at the same time providing the solidity needed for picking out discrete colonies. Koch also made a notable demonstration at the Intl. Med. Cong. in London. |
