Notes(Waterson, p. 10). The work was apparently done in 1870-71. Six years later, Pasteur used Plaster-of-Paris in the same way, and (with Joubert) moved into medical bacteriology. Waterson's [source?] is a 1962 paper by Roethlin (in German).
