Parris says fungus had been named Peronosora devastatrix in 1855, but also says that genus was erected by deBary in 1876. Says fungus now (1863) transferred to genus Phytophthora, meaning plant corrupter or plant eater. Apparently it had become Peronospora infestans in the meantime. |
