According to Catherine Wilson's 1995 book, Antonio Vallisnieri was prompted by a cattle epidemic of 1711-14 and human plague of 1720 to revive his idea of "contagium vivum." He suggested the possibility, in the future, of infusing drugs into the veins to kill the minute worms responsible for disease. Nevertheless Vallisnieri had doubts about his theory. |
