Notes | Using a chemical poison, rather than a germ, he introduced protection against its toxicity and transferred that protection to other animals by transfer of serum. Behring and Kitasato had passively transferred immunity in diphtheria and tetanus, but had not made a distinction between the two major types of immunity. |
