Notes | Proposed causation. May be 2nd disease of humans to be attributed to micro-organism (first being scabies). If scabies mite is excluded as ectoparasite, this would be first demonstration of a germ in a human disease --- but superficial disease, brief report, and no impact. Ainsworth says the proposition of causation was prompted by Bassi's work, and in turn prompted Remak's self-experimentation. |
