| Notes | It was reported that French troops in Santo Domingo were wiped out by diseases (especially Yellow Fever) "leading to" the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. McNeill p. 260. According to Latour (Pasteurization of France, p. 115): of 58,545 men, 50,270 died in four months; and by 1809, 58,245 had died. |
