| Notes | David E. Salmon and Theobald Smith. The bacteria used in the work had been isolated from swine. This appears to have been the first "dead" vaccine, and was of great importance in showing that attenuation was not the only means of making bacteria harmless while preserving their immunogenicity (the attenuation methods of Pasteur were not applicable to all bacterial infections). See 1896, 1897. Also important in the control of hog cholera! Check. Collard does not refer to pigeons. |
