Notes | In 1878, in discussing the findings of Pasteur, the eminent French surgeon Charles Sédillot proposed the word "microbe." In the same year Pasteur and colleagues approved of the coinage as a "new and fortunate expression proposed by M. Sédillot." See Lechavalier and Solotorovsky p. 47 and 217.
