Notes | Edwin Chadwick's essay argued that hygiene and sanitation could increase human life span beyond the gains already achieved. He went on to lead medical, social and civic reformers in lessening the hazards (and inefficiencies) of the Industrial Revolution by means of the great sanitary movement -- dealing with politics, poverty and crime as well as disease.
